The Mahoning County Land Bank and YNDC have completed the construction of three new homes in the City of Struthers, City of Campbell, and Village of Sebring. These projects build off ongoing work of the Land Bank and YNDC in these communities that include demolition, brownfield remediation, property acquisition, home repair, and housing counseling.

YNDC team members have installed 396 cameras this year through the Community Safety program throughout the 2nd Ward of Youngstown and on target new construction blocks across the city. Team members canvassed target areas and installed doorbell cameras at participating households.

YNDC has completed the planting of 85 trees around the perimeter of the former McGuffey Mall site on the east side of Youngstown. The site is currently being cleaned up and remediated by the Western Reserve Port Authority so it can be marketed for reuse.

Through the Mahoning Valley TreeCorps program, YNDC, Youngstown Cityscape, and Trumbull Neighborhood Parntership planted a total of 357 2" caliper shade trees in Youngstown and Warren neighborhoods during the fall planting season. Door-to-door outreach for street tree planting for the spring has already begun! Anyone in the Cities of Youngstown or Warren who is interested in having a tree planted in their tree lawn can request one by visiting our website.

YNDC, with the support of the Healthy Community Partnership's (HCP) Active Transportation Team, has completed the first Where the Sidewalk Ends No More project. The first project installed new sidewalks around Homestead Park on Youngstown's southside.

YNDC has recently completed neighborhood improvement projects on target blocks across the City of Youngstown where new homes are being constructed or vacant homes renovated. The neighborhood improvement projects include sidewalk replacement, dead street tree removal, street tree planting, community safety programming including doorbell cameras, targeted home repair and other improvements.

YNDC is seeking candidates for Owner-Occupied Repair Project Inspector. Under the supervision of the Owner-Occupied Repair Project Coordinator, the Owner-Occupied Repair Project Inspector will screen properties for necessary repairs, write up project specifications, inspect completed repairs, communicate deficiencies, and obtain client signatures on compliance documents.

YNDC is seeking candidates for Owner-Occupied Repair Outreach Assistant. Under the supervision of the Owner-Occupied Repair Client Coordinator, the Owner-Occupied Repair Outreach Assistant will complete direct outreach to potential clients, municipalities, and contractors associated with the Owner-Occupied Repair program.

YNDC is seeking candidates for Owner-Occupied Repair Program Assistant. Under the supervision of the Owner-Occupied Repair Client Coordinator, the Owner-Occupied Repair Program Assistant will complete programmatic tasks including answering and making phone calls, client database maintenance, document preparation and processing, filing, and scheduling.

YNDC is seeking candidates for a TreeCorps Project Manager. Under the supervision of the Neighborhood Stabilization Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for
managing Mahoning Valley TreeCorps, a large-scale urban tree canopy restoration, management, and workforce
training program in the cities of Youngstown and Warren, Ohio that involves multiple staff, organizational partners and volunteers.

YNDC is seeking candidates for a Grass Cutting and Cleanup Team Member Position. Under the direction of the Neighborhood Stabilization Director, the Grass Cutting and Cleanup Team Member will work with a team to implement property maintenance and neighborhood improvement projects including cutting grass, cleaning up/boarding vacant properties, basic construction/landscaping, and other projects to improve the quality of life in Youngstown’s neighborhoods.

The Ruth Beecher Charitable Trust awarded a $15,000 Grant to YNDC for clean and green equipment. The grant will be used to purchase a van and hydroseeder to significantly increase our neighborhood cleanup and vacant lot greening activities. Read more here. |

YNDC Visits Chattanoga to Study Missing Middle Housing
YNDC team members Tiffany Sokol and Ian Beniston visited Chattanooga along with colleagues from Canton for All People to learn from the Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE). Multiple new construction sites were visited as CNE is currently constructing missing middle housing, which is smaller multi family housing units including duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes and other small buildings of 12 units or less.
