On October 12, 2023 the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) and partners including: Mahoning County Land Bank, City of Youngstown, Trumbull County Land Bank, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Youngstown Cityscape, Healthy Community Partnership, Lola Lewis and other partners announced a $5,000,000 grant award from the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Inflation Reduction Act Grant Program for the Mahoning Valley TreeCorps project.

On October 26, 2023, YNDC completed its biennial Citywide Property Conditions Survey. This process surveyed every residential and commercial property in the City of Youngstown. The survey determined occupancy and if there were any exterior condition issues. A map of the survey results can be downloaded below.

On October 18, YNDC's TreeCorps completed its fall planting of 112 two inch caliper trees. Trees were planted in multiple neighborhoods in collaboration with: Seventh Ward Citizens Coalition, Handels Neighborhood Association, Know Your Neighbor Block Watch, Lincoln Knolls Community Watch, Northeast Homeowners and Concerned Citizens, and the Upper North Heights Neighborhood Association.

On Thursday, October 12, YNDC Housing Program Manager Jennifer Evans was named a 2023 Gems of the Valley Honoree by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley at their annual Fund for Women and Girls event.

On October 12 the Mahoning County Commissioners approved a $50,000 predevelopment grant to YNDC for affordable housing. YNDC will work collaboratively with Mahoning County Continuum of Care (Continuum), Family and Community Services, Inc. (FCS), and Mahoning County Land Bank

Migdalia has lived in her north-side home for 28 years. She moved to Youngstown from Chicago to be closer to her family, and she has been happily living in her neighborhood ever since. Her roof was leaking, creating holes in the ceilings throughout her home and damaging her belongings. YNDC replaced her roof, and it has made a big difference.

YNDC is seeking candidates for Grass Cutting and Cleanup Team Member position. Under the supervision of the Neighborhood Stabilization Director, the Grass Cutting and Cleanup Team Member will work with a team in the implementation of property maintenance and neighborhood improvement projects including cutting grass, cleaning up vacant structures and lots, boarding of vacant housing, basic construction, sidewalk repair and replacement and other projects to improve the quality of life in Youngstown’s neighborhoods.

YNDC Executive Director, Ian Beniston has joined the Middle Neighborhoods National Steering Committee. The Middle Neighborhoods National Steering Committee was formed in 2019 to determine the methods, structure, and resources to sustain a long-term effort that brings attention and support to America’s middle neighborhoods.
